INTERMODALISM (MTO - MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT OPERATOR) 
                  
Intermodalism is based on the concept of carrying of cargo by at least two different modes of transport on the basis of a single Multimodal Transport Contract issued in one country (at which the goods are taken in charge by the Multimodal Contractor) for delivery in a second country. 

The integration of Sea and Land Transport can produce tremendous benefits to both the Carrier and the Shipper such as reduced transport and handling cost, reduced transfers, savings in packing costs, through billing, improved transport reliability and cargo safety, better utilization of vehicles and facilities and reduced paperwork and time.
